Honour Amongst Thieves
11 October @7:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Honour Amongst Thieves is a comedy play written at the end of Ian Callaway’s time in the criminal justice system.
Ian battled for many years, and kept hidden from his colleagues in the law, a severe state of stress and clinically diagnosed depression. Driven to the very end of his tether by 25 years as a Senior Crown Prosecutor, he found salvation in the writing of Honour Amongst Thieves, a facetious deconstruction of the system that held him captive for so long.
Directed by Dina Yates, the play concentrates on the appearance of three specific defendants at a Magistrates court. A waiting room sets the 1st scene where two feckless young men form an unlikely alliance with an older very well spoken, ‘master of the criminal trade’. From a waiting room to a court room where a self representing defendant raises eyebrows and smiles from a District Judge!
The Play draws to a conclusion with the three defendants engaged in a drink fuelled get together in a graveyard, with an extraordinary revelation. Praised by Manchester Royal Exchange, for its ‘clever writing and skilful humour’, you are guaranteed to experience moments that will have you tittering in the aisles. After all, a court simply isn’t a court, unless there is a titter running round it!!
