The Secretary attempts to continue the tradition of opening the New Year with an evening inspired by a letter of the alphabet, usually focussing on musicians’ surnames. But ‘O’ is a tough one. Where do you go after Kid Ory and Anita O’Day? It could be a short evening!
KJS is a long established Society which meets on alternate Tuesday evenings, upstairs at the Druid’s Head, Market Place, Kingston, to listen to record recitals presented by members and sometimes guests who are jazz musicians, writers or critics. They warmly welcome new members who share an enthusiasm for the music and a broad-minded appreciation of jazz styles from Jelly Roll Morton to Charles Mingus. Equally, if you simply want to dip into jazz and learn more about it, KJS is the place to do so. There is no joining fee but members pay £1 at each meeting.
