This week we lost our beautiful and inspirational friend, Fran O’Brien. No-one will ever take Fran’s place. She was a VERY special lady. Kingston Arts will be supporting Fran’s family in celebrating Fran’s life and we will let you all know more about this in due course.
As well as being a triumphant element of the Thames Philharmonic Choir’s Golden Jubilee season, it also marked Kingston Arts’ opening concert of its Festival of the Voice.

A free event in which Kingston Music Service’s Glee Choir will be performing for the public. Come and join an open rehearsal at the Rose Theatre with four choir leaders and learn two popular songs – no need to read music or be in a choir. Take part in a flash mob in the Bentall’s Store and join a massed sing at 3.30pm in the Market Place. Lots of fun and all free. Let’s get this town singing!
For its summer concert, KCS brings together vividly contrasted works written for chorus and piano duet. Brahms’ gloriously melodious Liebeslieder waltzes, inspired by the music of Schubert, are full of freshness and charm. Rather less well-known is Richard Rodney Bennett’s Nonsense, a delicious and often hilarious setting of nonsense verse by Mervyn Peake.
Haydn’s wonderfully productive later years saw the creation of the London Symphonies, his oratorios and several fine Masses, including the Nelson Mass performed in 1800 in the presence of Nelson during his triumphant tour through Austria following his defeat of Napoleon’s forces at Aboukir Bay. A small orchestra of strings and organ is augmented by three trumpets and timpani.
