Free the Spirit – Canbury Singers

This is an exciting concert of American spirituals by different arrangers and some other songs by American composers. There will be solo items too by American composers.

The concert is in the middle of Kingston,
United Reform Church, Eden Street, KT1 1HZ.
Saturday 22nd June.
Starts at 6pm. Doors open 5.30pm

The Armed Man – A Mass for Peace

The Armed Man is essentially an anti-war piece and is based on the Catholic Mass, which Jenkins combines with other sources, principally the 15th-century folk song “L’homme armé” in the first and last movements. The Canbury Singers will be joined by choirs from Coombe Girls’ School and the South London Military Wives Choir.

Songs in Springtime – Canbury Singers

Canbury Singers jointly present ‘Songs in Springtime’with the South London Military Wives Choir, and a guest appearance by the Choir of Rowan Prep School.
An interesting and varied programme including Gospel songs, Religious works, and Songs from Shows to lighten up your springtime.
Tickets from £3 to £10.
Doors open 5pm.
Licenced Bar in interval and afterwards.

Cantata Saint Nicolas

Saturday 25 November, 7.30pm at St. Luke’s Church
The major work in the Canbury Singers Concert on Saturday 25th November will be the Cantata Saint Nicolas by Benjamin Britten. This cantata was composed by Britten for performance at the Centenary Celebrations of Lancing College in July 1948. It is an interesting and dramatic Cantata. The solo tenor part was sung by Peter Pears in the first performance.

Other works in this concert include sacred works by John Rutter and Choral arrangements of some Gospel classics.

Starts at 7.30 p.m.
Doors open 7.00 p.m.

Members updates

We’re eagerly looking forward to singing again in front of an audience! Our next concert is at Kingston Parish Church on 4th December at 6pm (note earlier than usual start time). We will be performing Handel’s “Messiah” with soloists and orchestra conducted by Joel Newsome-Hubbard. Masks must be worn by the audience whilst in the church.
