oneACTS 2018

March 14, 2018 By Anthony Kelly Leave a Comment

Eight new plays will performed over six nights in a festival of original playwriting at the cornerHOUSE.

Autumn Leaves, Bomb Proof, Invisibility and Baring All will be staged at the theatre in Douglas Road, on April 23, 25 and 27, while actors in Underhill, Saying Goodbye, A Scandal in Nova Alba, and Paws for Thought will tread the boards on April 24, 26 and 28.

The week-long showcase of original oneACT plays is now in its 13th year and will feature bite-sized chunks of drama, comedy, tragedy and whimsy from eight local playwrights.

Shows in the oneACTS 2018 start at 7.45pm; tickets for each night are £9 (£7 concessions) from Ticketsource. Book your tickets here.

Read more about the plays below.

April 23, 25 and 27
Autumn Leaves by Michael Sands
Directed by Dina Yates – Two friends meet for the first time in years but as they discuss the past, one has something to say that will change their lives forever.

Bomb Proof by Ian Hey
Directed by Paul Hughes – A dodgy firm has come under threat from a rival. The windows are bullet proof, the main door is bomb proof, but is the building idiot proof?

Invisibility by Elaine Blackmore
Directed by Rodney Pearson – Sarah reflects on life as she is waiting for her first session of chemotherapy in this touching and funny drama.
Baring All by Susannah Finzi
Directed by Claire Morrissey – In the soothing atmosphere of a beauty spa, anonymous beneath the face mask and the comfort of a soft towelling wrap, it’s easy to confide in a stranger when your marriage has hit the buffers.

April 24, 26 and 28
Underhill by David Kenzie
Directed by Jim Dunk – When two young people go up a hill, and only one comes down, a father is desperate for answers.
Saying Goodbye by Rebecca Mayhew
Directed by Clea Williams – Three adult siblings try to find the words to say goodbye to their departed mother.

A Scandal in Nova Alba by Orlando Pearson
Directed by James Goldwater – A mix of Bard and Baker Street comes together in this historical whodunnit.

Paws for Thought by David Le Vay
Directed by Graham Large – Dodger has just been awarded a PhD – the only problem is he’s a rabbit. Dodger’s owners have a very mixed reaction to the news of their pet’s academic prowess.
