Surbiton Arts Group was formed in 1947 to encourage the practice and appreciation of visual arts, including all forms of drawing, painting, calligraphy and sculpture.
Our meetings include a variety of activities, including demonstrations by practicing artists, lectures by professional art specialists, assessment and appreciation of members work, plus practical painting and drawing evenings. We welcome the complete beginner through to the more experienced artist, learning alongside each other in a friendly atmosphere. Two exhibitions are held each year in May and October and all members are invited to submit work. Subject to available hanging space and the right of the committee to reject unsuitable work, all entries are accepted for hanging without selection up to a fixed number per member. The increasing high standard achieved and the sales made at each exhibition have amply justified this open approach.
We meet once a month, on Monday evenings from 8 until 10 pm throughout the year (with a summer break during July and August) in the annexe hall of Surbiton Library, Ewell Road, Surbiton, KT6 6AG. If you are interested in painting or the appreciation of art, you are most welcome to join us at any of the group’s meetings, to try us out, to see if you would like to join. Visitors are welcome to all our meetings for a fee of £4 per session. We offer a full membership for £25 p.a. which includes entrance to all group sessions and the right to submit work for exhibitions, or a friends membership at £15 for those who might not want to show their work but would just like to attend meetings.
